Life bring interesting and Fast changes

Well, since I last wrote we have had a very busy week. On Tuesday our GI surgeon gave us some bad news, they were unable to operate since the tumor is so large. It not only surrounds the entrance to the stomach but down the side of the stomach and wrapped its evilness around the exit of the stomach(which is causing the most of the problems). At that point Dave was staged at a late Stage 2 or Stage 3. Dr Debru then pleaed our case to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre(TBCC). With the Christmas crunch we saw God work and get us an appointment to meet with an Oncologist on Thursday Afternoon. At this appointment we went over the story once again and Dave got poked and proded once again. We started to get concerned when the doctor(Essaw) said Holy cow while poking around and when he was surprised with certain comments like " Dave had a CT in White Rock in May and there was nothing on it." We shortly found out why...Dave has Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer that has metatisized to the abdomenal wall. This means that radiation therapy was out and that we needed to begin the very aggressive Chemotherapy as soon as possible. We minorly talked survival statistics, we have a 10-20% survival rate and that is highly optimistic. After we shed a few tears we rallied and got our game faces on.

We got a ton of information and prescriptions, including sleeping pills and morphine. I must admit that Dave has been a trooper. After assessing the scans again, Dr. Essaw called yesterday and said that we needed to place a Nasogastric Tube to adminster the oral Chemotherapy. So off to the Foothills(FMC) Hospital again. The Crack Radiology Team(A radiologist and Technologist that trained me there) got it in. We also found out that Dave will be starting Chemotherapy on Monday morning! Praise the Lord! We are definitely not feeling put off by the Doctors, Hey the Doctors are personally calling not their nurses!!!

Dave's Chemotherapy will include one intervenous chemotherapy every 3 weeks as well as 2 weeks of oral chemotherapy with one week off. This will be repeated I don't know how many times but they have booked 3 injection appointments already!

During this time we are not angry with God, he has a plan for us. He is our biggest cheerleader and there is no point being mad at him because you are disappointed. He is holding us up and answering all sorts of prayer. From friends that are rallying beside us(Cleaning, cooking, laundry, shoveling driveway, shoulders to cry on...) to having things happen quickly! We have been blessed in so many ways. Thank you to all.

WE will keep you posted and updated as things happen. Keep Praying!!! Please!
